Count, Separator, and Numbering
The count, the gap between copies, and the optional index are the whole of repeating text. What each separator produces, and why the result is plain text.
You can repeat text online in a few seconds. Open the text repeater, paste what you want duplicated, and set how many copies you need. The repeated text appears underneath, ready to copy or download. Nothing is uploaded.
Step by step
- Paste or type the source into “Text to repeat”. A word, a sentence, or several lines all work.
- Set the repeat count. You can type a number or tap ×5, ×10, ×25, ×50, or ×100.
- Choose what goes between copies. New line is the usual choice for a vertical list.
- Optional: turn on “Number each copy” if you want 1., 2., 3. in front of each repeat.
- Copy the repeated text, or download it as a .txt file.
The output updates while you edit, so you can change the count or the separator and see the block change before you copy it. If the box is empty, the source is empty or the count is not a positive number.
Choose a separator
New line
Each copy starts on its own line. Repeat “Good morning” five times and you get five lines. This is the right setting for worksheets, stacked labels, and any list you will read downward.
Space
Copies stay on one line with a single space between them. “Hello” repeated four times becomes “Hello Hello Hello Hello”. Use this for a row of the same word.
Comma
Copies are joined with a comma and a space: “red, red, red”. That is convenient when you are building a short series or sample values.
Nothing
Copies are joined with no characters in between. “ha” repeated three times is “hahaha”. Use this only when you really want the copies glued together.
Custom
Type the exact characters that should sit between copies. A pipe with spaces (“ | ”), a slash, an emoji, or the word “ and ” are all valid. Spaces you type are kept, so a separator of three spaces is three spaces, not one.
Number the copies
With numbering on, the tool writes the index, a period, a space, and then your text. Combined with a new line, “Practice” repeated three times becomes:
- 1. Practice
- 2. Practice
- 3. Practice
The number is part of each copy, then the separator is added after it. You do not have to type the numbers yourself.
Counts, limits, and the word counter
Under the output, the text repeater shows characters and words for the source, and characters, words, and lines for the result. The count is capped at 5,000 repeats, and the result is capped at 400,000 characters, so an extra zero does not freeze the tab.
If you need sentences, paragraphs, or reading time after you repeat text, copy the result into the word counter. The two tools do different jobs: one builds the block, the other measures it.
Copy or download
Copy repeated text puts the full result on your clipboard. Download .txt saves the same text as repeated-text.txt, which is easier to move into a document or a test fixture. Clear resets the source, the count, and the separator.
Open the text repeater and try a short phrase with the new-line separator first. For ideas on where the result is useful, read repeat text for placeholders and testing, or the overview in what is a text repeater.
The count is an input, not a feeling
After a dozen pastes, people stop being sure how many copies they have. A blank line sneaks in, or the last paste is missing. Setting the count and reading the line total underneath the result removes that. Change 40 to 25 and the block is rebuilt. You do not delete by hand and hope you stopped at the right row.
Presets such as 10 or 50 are starting points. The number you actually need is the number of rows in the design, the number of practice lines on the sheet, or the number of sample values in the test. If the output looks short, check the separator before you raise the count. Space-separated copies can look like one sentence even when the count is correct.
Plain text on purpose
The result is plain text. Bold, links, and font size are not in the file. That is useful when the destination is a form, a code comment, a worksheet, or a text message to yourself. If you need styling, paste the plain block into the document and format it there. Running the styled text back through the repeater will not keep the styling, and it may keep hidden characters you cannot see.
