Anonymous Chat Hides Your Name, Not the Messages

A room without an account name is still a conversation other people can read, copy, and screenshot. What the code protects, and what it never did.

An anonymous chat is a room where messages are not labeled with your account name. You create a room or join one with a code, and the conversation stays inside that room. People use it when they want a private thread that is not their usual profile.

Start a room or enter a code

On Anonymous Chat, create a room and share the link or code only with the people who should be in it. Anyone with the code can read and write, so the code is the lock. Send it in a channel you already trust, and make a new room when that group should change.

Anonymous is not the same as secret

The page does not ask for your name. Other people in the room can still screenshot messages, and you should still avoid passwords, payment details, and anything you would not want repeated. Leave a room that is being used to harass someone.

For a planned gift exchange rather than an open conversation, Secret Santa draws names and sends each person only their own assignment.

A worked example

Create a room in Anonymous Chat, copy the link, and open it in a private window. You should see the room without a name attached. Send the same link to one person. If a third person should not read it, do not post the link in a group. When the conversation is finished, stop sharing the code. The lock is the secrecy of the link, not a login.

A draw is a different tool

Name assignments for a gift exchange should not be typed into the room, or everyone sees every match. Use Secret Santa for the draw, and the room only if the group wants a side conversation.

The code is the lock

The room does not ask for your name. Anyone who has the link or the code can read and write. That is the entire access control. A code posted in a large group is a public room, whatever the page is called. Send it the way you would send a key, and make a new room when the group should change. Old links do not become private because the conversation moved on.

Anonymous means the messages are not labeled with an account. It does not mean they are unreadable, uncopyable, or safe to fill with passwords and payment numbers. People in the room can screenshot. Leave a room that is being used to harass someone. The absence of a name is not a reason to say something you would not want repeated.

A room is not a draw and not a letter

Gift assignments typed into the room are visible to everyone who is in it, which ends the secret. A proposal you meant for one person becomes a performance if the room link is public. Use the room for the conversation you intended, and use a draw or a direct link when the audience is supposed to be smaller than “anyone with the code.”
